IN-CHARACTER INFORMATION

Name: Rachette Brosca (choose-your-own-protagonist, 'The Warden')
Fandom: Dragon Age Origins
Age: 19
Canon Point: Post-death/post-slaying the archdemon
Original Universe or Alternate Universe? OU
Personality: Kindly yet blunt, forgiving but to a very sharp point, a rogue with a warrior's heart (and a merchant's inventory). Rachette is, by Zevran's admission, a woman who knows what she wants. She tends toward confidence in her actions and tries not to have too many regrets. It isn't because she's certain that she's right, but she knows she cannot take back an action once it's been done. Being wishy washy, being uncertain, will not help her reach any of her goals, thus she tries to be certain in her actions even if they turn out to be wrong.

Which really just hides the fact that she's making it up as she goes along. In her travels, she's gained a lot of experience and had time to settle into her abrupt thrust into the title of Grey Warden and into leading the small merry band around. But it's nothing that she was ever prepared for. While she can always rely on the advice of her comrades, in the end, she has to come up with an answer herself, and for the sake of those around her, she has to be sure about it. Everything comes down to her. (Thanks, Alistair.)

With a cunning, rogueish background, Rachette has learned the art of persuasive words and an intimidating stance. When she makes a statement, she expects people to at least listen if not agree with her. A lively debate can be good fun, but too long or circular and it becomes a weary chore (isn't that right Sten). While she mostly uses her words, she isn't afraid to take a literal stand with a glare and a menacing gesture or a very thinly concealed threat if she thinks the person deserves to have the fear of the Ancestors put into them. She tries to be better than the petty criminal she was, but her ruthlessness sometimes creeps out. While she usually gives someone the benefit of the doubt or a way out before things turn sour, disliking cold murder, she has no problems with putting someone to death if they attack her first, betray her trust, or if it seems like they give her no other option. On the other hand, she is, with persuasion, willing to kill if that is what that person wishes for, if the life they suffer is too much. But if a person who has done wrong is believably repentant (Sten, Jowan, among others), she is eager to see the good in them and give them a chance--knowing that if they fuck up, it's her fault, and she will swiftly correct that error. She's no Paragon herself, after all.

While she's known to ask questions of clarification, Rachette mostly wishes people would get to the point. In her assessments of people or situations, she can be incredibly blunt, although she usually does not mean it unkindly. As a poor duster, there's no reason to pad anything out; just say what you mean to say and move on. It's only when she's trying to be convincing in a world where words carry a lot of weight that she puts on her persuasive air. While she tries to be outwardly polite to those who either deserve it or would get her into trouble if she wasn't (royalty, even if she has no particular fondness for them), she doesn't mind blatantly insulting or mocking people who earn her scorn. She is at times quick with a sassy comment to people she probably should not, though thankfully she has not been smote for her tongue yet. Many of her companions enjoy or at least tolerate her wit and sarcasm, although the ones that might not she is mindful to be more delicate and thoughtful around. Just because she has a habit of being blunt doesn't mean she can't mind her words or she'd never be able to persuade anyone with anything but brute strength of will (but it doesn't hurt).

Family is extremely important to her, and not necessarily of blood. Her older sister Rica was one of the only bright spots in her days in Dust Town, and she would do anything to ensure that Rica is safe, even if it means leaving for the surface to become a Warden, so the Blight doesn't take her. She is swayed by family and especially sibling relations. Were Goldanna not Alistair's sister, she might have suggested he leave finding her until after they take care of business. Lost children or estranged siblings pull her heart strings. But she knows too the pain of blood that no longer matters. Her mother is an emotionally and verbally abusive drunken wretch who thinks all of the good that either of the sisters find belongs to her. But her company? Alistair her fellow Warden, and everyone she has picked up along the way? They're family. And she will do what she can for them. While she does her best not to make any promises she isn't sure she can keep, she knows she can always promise to try.

She has little patience for politics, finding the lying, backstabbing, and double-talk to be really fucking pretentious, even if she grudgingly understands. She leans toward socially forward thinking if only because she's been at and seen the bottom and would like to work toward changing the status quo. There are no qualms about overthrowing tradition in that sense. Her responsibilities as a Grey Warden are taken seriously but only over the plot has she really been coming to understand what that entails. Leaving behind family. Love being inherently selfish (or so sayeth Wynne, whose counsel is invaluable). Protecting people. While most of it she's been told, she's trying to work out a balance for herself. If there are no other Grey Wardens around to tell her she's not doing it the right way and still manages to save Ferelden from the Blight? Then she must not be doing it all wrong. But with all the respect that comes with the title, she'd like to be worthy of it. She's still relatively young and inexperienced with much of the world; that's what happens when you spend the majority of your life underground in the poorest part of town. And while her friends can come to her with their personal issues, she hypocritically tends to keep her own issues to herself, not wanting to burden the others with her problems. This can lead to some cruel anger to keep in check or a blowing up if she can't work off the emotional steam.

Is this character immune? Yes
Background: Dwarf Commoner Origin + DAO plot with special guest plot choices on a very broad major scale
Other Notables: As a rogue skilled in not getting caught doing crime, she prefers a stealthy backstab approach to fighting (and, really, a stealthy approach to most things doesn't hurt). Don't worry, she's not prone to backstabbing outside of battle. She can use a bow but much prefers a dagger in one hand and a sword in the other. Also: kicking things in the nuts. Don't give her a reason to. Do not present her with a lock unless you want her to attempt picking it. There's a basic working knowledge of how to make poisons, health poultices, and traps (as well as disarming them), though only basic.
Inventory: Warden's Oath amulet, a set of bossass armor, a bossass flaming sword (mmm grandmaster flame runes) and a bossass knife, a mysteriously empty backpack
SAMPLES

NETWORK SAMPLE: --the Ancestors, I am going to stab--

Is this working now? I might need the aid of a mage to let me know if this enchantment is working, but I believe I should be broadly casting. [She means broadcasting.]

I'm going to sound very silly otherwise.

As there is no chantry board to go to, and this area is very large, I'd like to petition the people here for information on the whereabouts of a number of people. The list reads: Alistair, Leliana, Wynne, Morrigan, Sten, Zevran, Oghren. And a large hound who is extremely intelligent and responds to the name Mordin. Well, he'll respond to nearly anything if you give him enough reason to, so long as it's not insulting...

Really, don't insult the dog.

Any information would be appreciated. If I can compensate you in any way, let me know. I'm surprisingly low on coin right now. [Of course she was robbed blind when she was kidnapped. Wonder how that happened.]
